Can we talk about how fantastic this is?
Disney has permeated the lives of young children, and well, everyone else. Accept your fate. If you’d like to argue, just look at the insane amount of product placement in this video. Using Google Chrome on a Mac and Spotify on the iPhone.
But recently they’ve taken a turn towards dealing with real issues facing our society – specifically mental health. (Also, the straight up dealing with racism and stereotypes in Zootopia? Fantastic.) From Elsa to Sadness, they’re sensitive to the world around them. (Let’s just pretend 1953 never happened, fam.) It’s so important for kids to see characters and themes they relate to in the media, and destigmatizing mental health issues is just one way Disney can help to normalize the conversation surrounding the very real struggles so many people face.
I love this music video on so many levels. It’s always insane to me how upbeat artists can make a song about material like this, something so intrinsically heavy.
The style of this music video so perfectly embodies the internet, at least the Disney-friendly portions. The way they seamlessly integrated the lyrics with the text in every frame of the video is phenomenal.
Last, but certainly not least, it serves as a cautionary tale. HEY KIDS, DON’T CLICK ON A LINK UNLESS YOU KNOW WHERE IT GOES! The lovely young men of Imagine Dragons won’t always be there to zap away evil kitties taking over your computer with the laser beams from their eyes.
